Lakers Begin NBA Season with Two Consecutive Wins for First Time in 14 Years
With a victory on Friday against the Phoenix Suns, 123-116, LeBron James’ team accomplished something that hasn’t been done since the 2010/11 season. The Los Angeles Lakers triumphed on Friday in their home game against the Phoenix Suns, sealing their first start in the NBA with two wins since the 2010/11 season.
The California-based team had a rocky start, trailing by as much as 22 points in the second period. However, after going into halftime down (52-61), they turned the game around in the third quarter (87-85) and solidified their victory in the final period.
Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 35 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, guiding the team coached by JJ Reddick, who has now become the first Lakers coach to win his first two games since the legendary Phil Jackson in 1999. Also making an impact for the home team were Austin Reeves with 26 points and LeBron James, who contributed 21 points, 17 of which came in the second half. For the Suns, Kevin Durant led the charge with 30 points, while Devin Booker added 23. The Arizona team initially found their rhythm, hitting 21 of their first 30 field goal attempts, including nine consecutive three-pointers.
However, they only managed to convert 21 of 52 attempts for the rest of the game, with nine of 27 in the third quarter. In other games this Friday, notable was the Chicago Bulls’ victory over the Milwaukee Bucks with a score of 133-122, highlighted by Coby White’s 35 points, Zach LaVine’s 25, and Nikola Vucevic’s 22 points along with 10 rebounds.
