An overview of Detroit’s commanding win against Tennessee through key metrics.
In Week 8, the Detroit Lions enjoyed a remarkable performance, achieving a resounding 52-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans.
This triumph featured several significant highlights and noteworthy stats that underscored their impressive play on Sunday. Here’s a numerical breakdown of the game, illustrating just how exceptional the Lions’ recent performances have been.
Quarterback Jared Goff joined an elite group by becoming the third quarterback in NFL history to record a passer rating of 125 or higher while attempting at least 15 passes in a game. The only other players to achieve this are Russell Wilson in 2015 and Ryan Tannehill in 2019.
Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs made history as well, becoming the fourth player ever to maintain an average of five yards per carry over a minimum of ten attempts for six consecutive games. He excelled on Sunday with an average of 11.5 yards from 11 carries, highlighted by a remarkable 70-yard touchdown.
Receiver and punt returner Kalif Raymond also made headlines by averaging 38 yards per return on five punt returns, the highest average for a player with at least five returns since the AFL/NFL merger in 1970. His total of 190 return yards was just 17 shy of the NFL single-game record of 207, held by LeRoy Irvin since 1981.
The Lions’ 52 points approached a franchise record; however, the single-game high remains 55, set in 1997 against the Chicago Bears.
In addition to the offensive feats, punter Jack Fox made history too, becoming the first player in NFL history to average over 60 gross yards and 55 net yards per punt in a game with at least five attempts.
Goff continued to shine, becoming the first player ever to throw two or more touchdowns while completing at least 72 percent of his passes and achieving a passer rating of 110.0 or higher in five consecutive games.
In October, Goff completed 80 percent of his passes across three games, throwing for 680 yards and eight touchdowns, while earning a passer rating of 149.8. This rating is the highest recorded in league history for the month of October.
