Fiji’s resilience, Koli believes in team’s strength and determination
Former national captain Koli Rakoroi is confident that the FIJI Water Flying Fijians will deliver a strong performance against their Northern Hemisphere opponents starting against Scotland this Sunday.
Rakoroi, who led Fiji at the 1987 Rugby World Cup, the first Fijian team to reach the quarter-final, expresses faith in the squad’s abilities and resilience.
“I know the boys will show a good performance out there. We believe in them and we know they’ll put on a good show,” he said.
Reflecting on the team’s journey, Rakoroi highlights the importance of unity and focus.
“For us, the key has always been about playing together as a family, embracing our Fijian spirit, and never backing down.
“I trust that this group will play for each other and for the nation, as we always did in our time.”
He also suggests the Flying Fijians should bring back the confidence and energy they displayed at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, but with renewed focus and drive.
“The 2023 World Cup showed us all how much potential this team has. Now, it’s about channeling that experience and elevating their game further. They’ve overcome a lot, including the challenges with player allowances, and now it’s time to focus solely on the game,” Rakoroi added.
He encouraged the players to take pride in their journey and play with a warrior’s mind set.
“This tour is an opportunity to show the world what it means to wear the Fijian jersey. It’s more than just rugby, it’s representing our people and culture on the world stage. I know these boys are ready to give their best,” he said.
After Scotland, the side plays Wales on November 10, Spain on November 17 and Ireland on November 23.
