FRICSO Pretending to be able to “mock” a player in the 2025 NFL Draft before the 2024 midseason has even begun is incredibly foolish. That being said? Certain items do fit in some way. Throughout their seven games this season, the Dallas Cowboys’ well-known running back issue has been a constant concern. They resorted to another practice squad member, four-time Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook, in part because their dependence on veteran Ezekiel Elliott and practice squadder turned No. 1 back Rico Dowdle didn’t produce much on the field this season. Amidst much excitement, Cook participated in Sunday’s 30–24 loss to the Niners. For 12 years, he rushed six times. The fanfare is over. Therefore, it appears like Dallas will be seeking a revitalisation at that position when draft day approaches in April, or at the very least, that ought to be on their agenda. Their recent selections for that position may provide an answer to the question of whether or not they will look for a running back.

The only running back the Cowboys have selected since the 2020 Draft was Deuce Vaughn, who was selected in the sixth round in 2023. Respecting the Cowboys’ current fourth-string back, that selection was made for reasons other than fit and scheme.

The young Deuce, who is the son of a Dallas scout, is still an interesting story, but not much more. To survive what might be the last golden years with Dak Prescott leading the team, Dallas must focus on finding a backfield talent who can carry the weight for the upcoming campaigns. Here comes Ashton Jeanty, a running back for Boise State who has dominated college football this season and is a strong contender for the Heisman Trophy. Jeanty recently mentioned the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cowboys as two teams he would like to play for.

“I’m not saying the Dallas Cowboys aren’t a good fit,” Jeanty said. That’s not what I’m saying. My hometown is Frisco, and I played there at their practice stadium. Going there would make me a hometown hero.
