The 49ers Should Make a Trade to Improve One Position

The 49ers need to upgrade this position if they plan to make any trades at the trade deadline.

Being aggressive during the trade deadline is nothing new to the San Francisco 49ers. Whether it is for a depth player or a well-known player, they are nearly always purchasers. In order to strengthen their pass rush, the 49ers acquired Chase Young from the Washington Commanders in a trade last year. They acquired Randy Gregory from the Denver Broncos prior to acquiring Young. The 49ers will always have players at the trade deadline as long as they are in the running for the playoffs.

At this moment, nothing is impending. On a deal, John Lynch told KNBR, “I will tell everyone that.” “However, if something does work out here—the trade deadline falls on election day, which is an interesting move—and if something comes up by then that makes sense, can improve our football team, fits with our budget, and all that, then we’ll definitely pull the trigger.”

When asked about the 49ers joining the trade market, Lynch typically responds with this response. Given their past performance, a move is almost certainly in the horizon. The 49ers should enhance one position in a trade if that occurs. Whether they are on the interior or the edge, they need to target a defensive lineman. The 49ers must increase the impact of their pass rush.

Although it hasn’t been awful, it hasn’t been excellent either. In almost every significant statistical area, they are ranked in the centre of the league. They are tied for the 16th most sacks in the NFL with just 20 so far. They are the 14th best at applying pressure to the quarterback, doing so 34.6 percent of the time. With sacks and pressure, blitzing might be a strategy to boost their success rate.

The 49ers had the third-lowest rate of blitz calls, which is the problem. They don’t want to do it. They need to get a defensive lineman because their standard is to rush four and drop seven back in coverage. To maintain that mainstay as a strength, they require greater depth and quality.

The 49ers have used a four-man rush at the third-highest percentage in the NFL this season (77.9 percent) going into Week 8. They had the sixth-highest pressure rate in the league with four pass rushers, at 37 percent. In 2024, they have also produced 14 sacks when not blitzing, which ties them for sixth-most The most effective method to maintain that

Getting another pass rusher is the greatest way to maintain and raise that level. The offence should not be considered for the trade market. With a defensive lineman in particular, it must be on defence.
