The Maple Leafs are adding a veteran defenseman through a trade proposal.

A trade offer has the Toronto Maple Leafs adding a seasoned defenseman, who has prioritized defense and goaltending. Users can make their own trades using the PuckGM tool on the website PuckPedia.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to trade for a veteran defenseman, with potential targets like Chris Tanev and Nikita Zadorov from Calgary. This move aims to address defensive struggles and Klingberg’s injury, adding much-needed depth and reliability. Strengthening their blue line could be crucial for the Leafs’ playoff ambitions.

One user proposed a transaction that would see the Maple Leafs acquiring Matt Grzelcyk from the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Given that the Maple Leafs receive a veteran defenseman to aid them immediately and Pittsburgh receives a young forward and two draft picks to aid them later, the proposed trade does make sense.

This offseason, Grzelcyk agreed to a one-year contract worth $2.75 million with the Penguins. But, with Pittsburgh off to a sluggish start, he could be a trade candidate by the deadline and the Maple Leafs would be a natural spot.

The former Boston Bruins defenceman has much hockey postseason experience and may be a third-pairing defenseman in Toronto.

The 25-year-old Holmberg, who is in the second year of a two-year, $1.6 million contract, would be sent to the Maple Leafs in exchange. The Swede might be the Penguins’ bottom-six forward and contribute
