Bulldogs Snap Up Enari Tuala as Bargain Replacement Following Addo-Carr’s Dramatic Exit
The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs may have uncovered a budget-friendly replacement for the recently released winger, Josh Addo-Carr, by securing Knights speedster Enari Tuala on a two-year deal.
Tuala, a versatile backline player capable of covering both wing and centre, joins the Bulldogs for a salary reportedly much lower than the $500,000 previously allocated to Addo-Carr.
Addo-Carr’s sudden departure from the club last week followed a traffic stop that revealed a positive cocaine test, leaving a significant vacancy in the Bulldogs’ lineup. Tuala, who made a name for himself as a reliable try-scorer during his five-year tenure with the Knights, twice topping their try charts, looks set to add firepower to Canterbury’s backline.
Originally a junior with the Cowboys, Tuala spent three years with his hometown club before transferring to Newcastle. As a former Junior Kangaroo, he had been in discussions to extend his time with the Knights when the Bulldogs made a timely offer.
The recent exits of centre Jeral Skelton and Addo-Carr now pave the way for Tuala to potentially cement his position in the Bulldogs’ lineup, though the competition will be fierce.
Blake Wilson, who showcased promising form in 2023, and new recruit Marcelo Montoya from the Warriors, will both be vying for starting spots during the pre-season trials, adding an extra layer of intensity to Tuala’s battle for selection.
Meanwhile, Addo-Carr’s management team is reportedly engaging in discussions with several Sydney clubs, aiming to secure the prolific try-scorer a fresh start for the 2025 season. The next few weeks will determine whether Addo-Carr lands a new opportunity that allows him to keep showcasing his talent in the NRL.
