Fans of the Dallas Cowboys were hopeful that their team would make a big deal to rescue what little hope they had for the playoffs, but the NFL trade deadline passed with only one little transaction. Jonathan Mingo, a wide receiver who has only caught 12 passes for 121 yards in nine games this season, was acquired by the Cowboys in exchange for a seventh-round pick and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft from the Carolina Panthers.
According to Stephen Jones, executive vice president of the Cowboys, the team is still in the process of onboarding Mingo for the forthcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles. For (Sunday’s) game, we’re still attempting to send him some packages. According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Jones stated, “He’s a guy that can help us this year as well, but certainly the future was a big part of our decision to go get him.”

Mingo might not have much of an effect and might not develop into the reliable No. 2 wide receiver Dallas requires, behind All-Pro CeeDee Lamb. In the 2023 NFL Draft, he was selected in the second round and finished his rookie season with 43 receptions for 418 yards and no touchdowns. Based on Jones’ remarks, it appears that Dallas wants to help him become a reliable contributor in the years to come. Dak Prescott, the starting quarterback for the 3-5 Cowboys, will be sidelined for a few weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during a Week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Prescott’s prospects of returning at all this season would be severely harmed if he were placed on injured reserve and required surgery.
If Prescott were put on injured reserve and needed surgery, it would seriously hurt his chances of making a comeback this season.
