Detroit Lions May Lose Key Player Get Lions updates
The Detroit Lions might see one of their Super Bowl-winning starters move to the Las Vegas Raiders, as suggested by an NFL insider.
During the 2024 offseason, the Lions made notable acquisitions, including a veteran cornerback who contributed to the Buccaneers’ Super Bowl LV win.
That cornerback was Carlton Davis. The Lions also added Terrion Arnold and Amik Robertson to their secondary, forming an effective combination. Through eight games, Davis has allowed a 60.3% completion rate on passes directed at him and recorded a passer rating of 89.1 against him.
Davis is set to become a free agent in 2025, and Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department predicts that Davis will leave Detroit in free agency and potentially join the Las Vegas Raiders.
Detroit Lions Could Lose Experienced Cornerback to Free Agency In a feature published on November 4, Bleacher Report’s NFL analyst Matt Holder delved into the current struggles faced by the Raiders.
“The Raiders have now dropped five straight games and don’t have much to look forward to,” Holder noted. “After trading away Davante Adams earlier this season, they’ll likely field interest for some of their veterans as the trade deadline approaches.”
Holder suggested that the Raiders should pursue Davis during the 2025 free agency period.
“The plan of relying on Jack Jones to replicate his strong finish from last season has not panned out,” Holder commented. “Similarly, hoping Jakorian Bennett would emerge as a reliable starter has also failed. Nate Hobbs, their top cover corner, is set to enter free agency this offseason.”
He added, “The Raiders need an experienced starting cornerback to bring stability to the position. Carlton Davis has provided that for the Lions this year. The 28-year-old has offered Detroit dependable performance and could do the same for the Raiders.”
Only time will reveal if Davis ultimately joins Maxx Crosby in Las Vegas.
Possible New Cornerback Options for the Lions Regarding potential additions for the Lions in 2025 free agency, Holder suggested Kristian Fulton of the Los Angeles Chargers. He also praised the Lions’ impressive season, during which they won six consecutive games and led the NFC North with a 7-1 record heading into the season’s latter half.
“Detroit’s need for cornerback reinforcements is clear,” he wrote. “While Terrion Arnold shows promise, he has struggled at the start of his career. Moreover, both Carlton Davis and Emmanuel Moseley will be free agents.”
Holder explained why he thinks Fulton would suit Detroit well: “The front office should consider cornerback options in the upcoming market, and Fulton is an intriguing candidate, having rejuvenated his career in Los Angeles. Prior to this weekend, the 26-year-old allowed just nine receptions and posted a passer rating of 68.8 when targeted, earning a 79.1 coverage grade from Pro Football Focus.”
