Lakers Considering Two Big Men Amid D’Angelo Russell Trade Speculation

Lakers Reportedly Targeting 2 Big Men Amid D’Angelo Russell Trade Speculation

The Los Angeles Lakers’ early games under new head coach JJ Redick have given fans reasons to feel hopeful. Although Redick is proving to be a capable coach, there’s only so much he can accomplish with a roster lacking consistency to secure wins.

With LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the team, building a playoff contender is achievable, but turning it into a championship-caliber roster is more challenging.

It has quickly become apparent during Redick’s early days with the team that adjustments are necessary. D’Angelo Russell has been a focal point in discussions regarding potential changes.

Russell’s weaknesses have become evident, leading Redick to shift him to a bench role.

“I left all my baggage at the door [when the Lakers fired Darvin Ham],” Russell said after his demotion. “I’m egoless. I just want to win.”

Still, good character alone doesn’t justify keeping him on the roster, especially if better opportunities arise to strengthen the team.

As reported by Jake Fischer, Russell could be traded, with the Lakers “eyeing” two big men as potential additions.

Fischer notes that Russell could serve as “outgoing” salary in a trade, with Brook Lopez and Jonas Valanciunas among the club’s “internal board” targets.

Acquiring a big man aligns with Redick’s strategy, as he has emphasized Davis’s importance since taking over as head coach.

Redick and the Lakers are under pressure to act quickly, given the aging statuses of both James and Davis. Trading Russell for a big man who can contribute more effectively could be the right choice.
