The “secret sauce” that Steelers Mike Tomlin used to stop Commander Jayden Daniels

In Week 10, the Washington Commanders suffered a devastating loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 28-27, at Northwest Stadium. Washington’s offense struggled to finish the game, losing to Pittsburgh’s clutch plays and a tough Steelers defense in the closing seconds despite a great effort and a late-game advantage.

The Commanders showed a burst of vigor after trailing 17–14 at the half and broke the Steelers’ season-long record of shutting out opponents in the third quarter. For a short while, Washington’s offense dominated, but late in the fourth quarter, Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson struck wide receiver Mike Williams for a game-changing 32-yard touchdown, giving Pittsburgh a one-point lead with just over two minutes remaining.

A strong Steelers defense stopped Commanders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels to only five rushing yards on three carries, which was his lowest total of the season. Daniels was forced to use his arm as a result of Pittsburgh’s defensive scheme, which focused on restraining the dual-threat quarterback. Although Pittsburgh’s unrelenting pass rush and coverage held the Commanders to 242 total offensive yards and thwarted crucial touchdown drives, he completed 17 of 34 for 202 passing yards.

With this victory, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin continued to build game plans that test less seasoned signal-callers, extending his impressive record versus rookie quarterbacks to 26-6.
