Semi Radradra’s Autumn Nations Series campaign has come to an end after he was handed a suspension following his red card in Fiji’s victory over Wales last Sunday.
The 32-year-old winger, playing in Cardiff, was initially shown a yellow card by referee Luc Ramos for a shoulder-to-head collision with Welsh full-back Cameron Winnett in the first half. However, after the TMO reviewed the incident, the penalty was upgraded to a red card, leaving Radradra cited after his team’s 24-19 win.
The disciplinary hearing has now taken place, with Radradra receiving a three-match ban. This suspension could be reduced to two games if he successfully completes World Rugby’s tackle school program.
A statement explained: “Fiji’s Semi Radradra appeared before an independent disciplinary committee via video link after being shown a red card for foul play under Law 9.13 in the match against Wales. The committee was chaired by Philippe Cavalieros (France), with former international referee Valeriu Toma (Romania) and former international player Stefan Terblanche (South Africa) also present.”
The committee noted that, after acknowledging the foul play, the six-week mid-range entry point for the sanction was appropriate. However, due to Radradra’s clean disciplinary record and his remorse, the sanction was reduced by 50%, resulting in a three-week ban. The suspension will cover the following matches: November 16 – Spain vs. Fiji, November 23 – Ireland vs. Fiji, and November 30 – Pau vs. Lyon.
Radradra may also apply to participate in World Rugby’s coaching intervention program, which could replace the final match of his suspension. This program is designed to address the techniques and issues that contributed to the foul play.
