Drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Martin spent most of his rookie season developing, appearing in just three games. He entered the 2024 season competing with Kyle Peko for the backup nose tackle role behind starter DJ Reader. However, a knee injury during the preseason finale sidelined him, landing him on IR during final roster cuts.
With Peko also on injured reserve and the Lions relying on defensive end Pat O’Connor as a temporary nose tackle backup, Martin’s return adds much-needed size and depth. At 6-foot-5, 330 pounds, Martin brings a natural fit to the position, unlike O’Connor, who at 270 pounds is better suited for rotational duties across the defensive line.
