Detroit Lions Make Three Roster Moves Ahead of Colts Matchup
The Detroit Lions have announced three key roster updates as they prepare for their Week 12 clash against the Indianapolis Colts. The moves include activating defensive lineman Brodric Martin from the injured reserve list, signing safety Kaevon Merriweather to the practice squad, and releasing safety Erick Hallett from the practice squad.
Brodric Martin Returns from Injured Reserve
Brodric Martin has been activated after spending much of the season sidelined due to injury. His return strengthens the Lions’ defensive line as they continue their push for a Super Bowl run. The team created space on the 53-man roster for Martin by placing safety Ifeatu Melifonwu on injured reserve earlier this week. Martin’s presence adds crucial depth to the Lions’ defense during this critical stretch of the season.
Kaevon Merriweather Joins Practice Squad
To reinforce their secondary, the Lions have signed safety Kaevon Merriweather to the practice squad. A native of Belleville, Michigan, Merriweather entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in May 2023. Over 25 career games (two starts), he has recorded 24 tackles and one pass defended. His addition provides flexibility and potential backup support for Detroit’s defensive backfield.
Erick Hallett Released from Practice Squad
In a corresponding move, the Lions released safety Erick Hallett from the practice squad. Hallett, a sixth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2023 NFL Draft, joined Detroit’s practice squad on August 29, 2024. However, he has yet to make his NFL debut and was waived to create room for Merriweather.
