The Detroit Lions are thriving in 2024, with a league-best 9-1 record, thanks in large part to Jared Goff’s exceptional play. Goff’s 73% completion rate, 2,492 passing yards, and 20 touchdowns have been crucial, even as his nine interceptions (including five in a single game) show some areas for improvement. Despite drafting Hendon Hooker in the 2023 NFL Draft, Goff’s dominant form suggests he will remain Detroit’s franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future.

Hendon Hooker’s NFL Journey

Hendon Hooker, once a standout at Tennessee, was considered a potential first-round talent before a torn ACL in his final college season hurt his draft stock. Over his collegiate career, Hooker amassed 8,974 passing yards, 80 touchdowns, and just 12 interceptions, while adding 2,079 rushing yards and 25 rushing scores. Selected in the third round by the Lions, Hooker has benefited from a developmental year behind Goff, learning from the likes of Ben Johnson and Dan Campbell.

With Goff entrenched as the Lions’ starter, Hooker could become a trade asset for Detroit, offering quarterback-needy teams a talented, cost-effective option.

Potential Landing Spots for Hendon Hooker in 2025

  1. Las Vegas Raiders
If head coach Antonio Pierce stays on, the Raiders could be an intriguing fit. Pierce has shown an affinity for mobile quarterbacks, making Hooker a natural target to rejuvenate their offense.
  2. New York Giants
With Daniel Jones benched and the Giants seemingly tanking for the first overall pick, drafting a QB like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye seems likely. However, if they pivot to selecting a non-quarterback like Travis Hunter, Hooker could be a valuable addition to their QB room.
  3. Cleveland Browns
The Browns are grappling with cap constraints, largely due to Deshaun Watson’s hefty contract. Hooker offers a dynamic, affordable alternative with the potential to bring the playmaking ability Cleveland hoped for with Watson.
  4. Miami Dolphins
If Tua Tagovailoa retires due to his concussion history, Hooker could step into one of the league’s most explosive offenses, working with stars like Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and De’Von Achane under the innovative guidance of head coach Mike McDaniel.

Outlook

Hendon Hooker’s talent and potential make him a compelling option for teams seeking a quarterback in 2025. While the Lions may not need him as Goff continues to excel, Hooker’s development in Detroit could position him as a sought-after trade asset in the coming offseason.
