Perez Rules Out Potential Future Move to IndyCar
Sergio Perez hasn’t placed in the top five since the Miami Grand Prix in May, and while his future remains uncertain, he has ruled out a move to IndyCar after Formula One.
Although the 2025 Formula One grid is already finalized, there is lingering uncertainty about Perez’s position. Currently, he trails his newly crowned teammate by 251 points. Despite having a contract for next season with Red Bull, rising talents like Yuki Tsunoda, Liam Lawson, and dark horse Franco Colapinto are closing in on the veteran’s seat.
At 34 years old, Perez is one of the oldest drivers on the grid, and with the pressure surrounding his position, his Formula One career could be nearing its end. Looking ahead, Perez shared his thoughts on his post-F1 future.
In an interview with Motorsport.com, the six-time Grand Prix winner was asked about the possibility of joining IndyCar, as other former F1 drivers have done. He responded:
“Not really. If I’m honest, I think one of the reasons I’ll stop when I stop is because I’ve done enough. I’ve had my fill at this level of F1. With the tight schedule we have, I’d like to spend more time with my small kids and my family. It’s hard to find anything that matches what F1 offers in that regard.”
Perez added, “I really respect what they do in IndyCar, but I hope to finish my career without injuries or anything like that.”
However, Perez did express interest in participating in occasional events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Rolex 24 at Daytona. He noted that “doing one or two races a year” is more likely for him since “it’s really hard to stop completely” as a driver.
As Perez heads into the final two races of the season, questions remain. Will Red Bull retain him for next year, or is this the end of his Formula One journey?
