Detroit Lions stole a key Seattle Seahawks backup by signing him off the practice roster.

The Detroit Lions nearly fell humiliatingly to the vastly inferior Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving once more, but they came through thanks to now-former Bears head coach Matt Eberflus clinging to his last timeout like it was his only child in the middle of a hurricane. While they won, the NFC frontrunners sustained numerous injuries during the game, particularly on defence. Yesterday, Detroit filled one of those gaps at the expense of the Seattle Seahawks.

The Lions have acquired veteran defensive tackle Myles Adams off the practice squad, where he was placed after the Seahawks dismissed him from the main roster last week. Losing Adams does not spell the end of the world for rookie head coach Mike Macdonald’s defence. However, it should not be entirely ignored. Adams brought experience and depth to one of the most crucial positions in the contemporary game. He had appeared in 26 games for the Seahawks over the previous four seasons, primarily as a backup.

For what it is worth. Adams’ performance on the pitch this season did not meet Pro Football Focus standards. He presently has a 40.4 overall rating, the fifth-lowest mark on Seattle’s defence this year. Adams received particularly low scores in tackling (28.5) and run defence (37.9). If anyone has reason to rejoice Adams’ departure, it’s probably second-year defensive tackle Mike Morris, who has been trapped at the bottom of the interior defensive line rotation since being draughted out of Michigan. Despite participating in ten games this season, he has only played 67 defensive snaps. With Adams out of the picture, Morris should be next in line for more playing time.
