Micah Harper announces NCAA Transfer Portal decision

“My time at BYU has been unforgettable. I’ve made lasting memories both on and off the field. I’m deeply grateful for the relationships that have shaped me into who I am today.

“I want to thank Coach Kalani and Coach G for allowing me to wear BYU Blue, earn a degree from the Marriott School of Business, and grow in faith daily. Thanks also to the admin staff, mentors, trainers, strength staff, and professors who supported me.

“As I look ahead, I trust the Lord’s guidance in my life. With that in mind, I am entering the transfer portal as a Graduate Transfer for my final year of eligibility. Thank you, Cougar Nation, for all your love and support. God bless.”

Harper’s 2024 BYU football season

The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Harper started the 2024 season as BYU’s week one nickel/safety starter.

After recovering from an ACL injury that sidelined him for the 2023 season, Harper was expected to excel at nickel for BYU in 2024. However, he suffered an early-season injury that kept him out of the Wyoming game in week three. Following a 21-snap performance against Baylor on September 28, Harper didn’t play more than 20 snaps in any remaining games.

A hard-hitting defensive back

Harper’s standout season at BYU came in 2022, with 62 tackles, three tackles for loss, three pass breakups, and two forced fumbles.

Known for his aggressive playing style, Harper is versatile, excelling at both safety and cornerback. When he joined BYU in 2020, he was compared to former Cougar Dayan Lake.

The FBS NCAA Transfer Portal window runs from December 9 to December 28, 2024.

Harper is the third BYU player to enter the 2024 portal, following Kody Epps and Jackson Bowers.
