BYU Football has secured head coach Kalani Sitake with a long-term contract extension. The university announced the agreement late Saturday night, noting that Sitake’s previous contract, which extended through 2027, has been updated. However, specific details regarding the duration of the new extension were not disclosed.
Athletic Director Tom Holmoe expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m thrilled to announce a long-term agreement to extend Kalani Sitake as BYU’s Head Football Coach.” He praised Sitake for cultivating a culture that aligns with the mission of Brigham Young University and its sponsoring institution, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Holmoe highlighted Sitake’s ability to foster strong connections with student-athletes, aiding their development both on the field and in their personal lives. He added, “Kalani’s signing signals his loyalty to a program he has poured much of his life into as a young fan, a player, and our head coach.”
Under Sitake’s leadership, BYU achieved a 10-2 record in the 2024 season, including a 7-2 mark in the Big 12 Conference. The team reached as high as No. 6 in the College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings. Throughout his nine-year tenure, Sitake has guided BYU to three seasons with double-digit wins. A former BYU player himself, Sitake has been at the helm since 2016.
Reflecting on the extension, Sitake expressed gratitude for the continued support from university leadership. He remarked, “Before I became the coach at BYU, I was first a Cougar fan and then a player here.” Sitake emphasized his commitment to the university’s mission and his appreciation for the players, coaches, and staff within the program. He looks forward to the opportunities ahead as BYU competes in the Big 12 Conference.
