The Chiefs are reportedly losing a valuable voice this offseason, as assistant defensive line coach Terry Bradden joins the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ coaching staff. After eight seasons in Kansas City, he will take over as head defensive line coach. Andy Reid, Steve Spagnuolo, and the Kingdom are having difficulty coming to terms with Bradden’s demise. There’s nothing wrong with Bradden seeking a new opportunity. He certainly deserves it, but his absence will be felt by the defenders.
He assisted Chris Jones in becoming the league’s most dominant interior player, and Kansas City’s defensive line is consistently ranked among the best in the NFL. While coaching former star Tyrann Mathieu to an All-Pro selection, he spent the 2019 season working with defensive backs after starting with the defensive line. Bradden’s vast expertise at every level of the defence, along with his background as a defensive quality control coach, was a huge advantage. Although Bradden’s record speaks for itself, there is little cause to be excessively concerned as Spagnuolo remains the NFL’s top defensive coordinator. With the probable objective of eventually becoming a defensive coordinator, he will now join Matt Rhule’s staff in Lincoln.
Bradden is still concentrating on the Chiefs and a possible three-peat for the time being. Since CB Jaylen Watson suffered an injury, Kansas City’s defence has suffered, but their performance against the Chargers on Sunday was a significant improvement. Bradden’s replacement is still up in the air. For Chiefs supporters, this news is disheartening because of his extensive organisational expertise and outstanding services. But Bradden deserves the opportunity to develop further and reach his full coaching potential. Sadly, Kansas City is no longer a part of that route.
