College Football Team Secures Two High-Profile Transfers Within an Hour
The college football transfer portal is in full swing, with players rapidly entering and announcing new commitments. On Friday night, the Texas Tech Red Raiders scored two major transfer commitments in under an hour.
First, former Mississippi State cornerback Brice Pollock revealed his decision to join head coach Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders. Over two seasons with the Bulldogs, Pollock tallied 72 tackles, 10 passes defended, one forced fumble, and an interception, making him one of the top-five cornerbacks available in the transfer portal.
Shortly after, Texas Tech landed another significant commitment. Former Miami (OH) wide receiver Reggie Virgil announced his move to the Red Raiders. The 6-foot-4 receiver recorded 41 catches for 816 yards and nine touchdowns with the RedHawks in 2024. Virgil brings one year of eligibility to Texas Tech.
Adding Pollock at cornerback is a key move for the Red Raiders, who ranked 132nd out of 133 FBS teams in passing yards allowed per game (305.3) this past season.
Virgil bolsters the team’s wide receiver group, replacing graduate transfer Josh Kelly, who led the Red Raiders in 2024 with 89 receptions for 1,023 yards and five touchdowns.
Texas Tech concluded the 2024 regular season with an 8-4 record, including a victory over No. 11 Iowa State in Ames. The Red Raiders now prepare for an AutoZone Liberty Bowl clash against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday, Dec. 27.
