Although Kerby Joseph of the Detroit Lions is one of the most impactful and hard-hitting safetymen in the NFL, his unrestrained tackling style hasn’t always garnered him much attention. Joseph recently took notice of an unofficial honour bestowed upon him by a prominent NFL reporter, to which he responded with a humorous post on X. Using three laughing and sobbing emojis, Joseph retweeted an NFL reporter Dov Kleiman’s post revealing that Joseph was chosen the NFL’s “Dirtiest Player.” “Naw man that’s the wrong DPOY,” he said.
The Defensive Player of the Year award, which is a formal honour bestowed at the conclusion of the season, was the subject of Joseph’s post. With coach Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn’s squad this season, the former Illinois Fighting Illini star has amassed an amazing stat line. As the Lions defence has held up well in the face of multiple injuries, he has accumulated seven interceptions, ten pass breakups, and forty-one total tackles.
Last season, former Lions and current Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford dubbed Joseph “dirty as (expletive)”; ever since, Joseph has struggled to shake the label. “TBH y’all just calling me dirty cs y’all favourite QB said it and that he seen it on film lol,” Joseph responded to his previous tweet.
