The NFL punished two Detroit Lions for plays made during the team’s victory over the Green Bay Packers at home last Thursday. It’s interesting to note that neither fine came from a play that was called during play. The individuals that were fined were rookie offensive lineman Christian Mahogany and defensive end Za’Darius Smith. In his NFL debut, Mahogany grabbed a facemask during one of his three offensive snaps, earning him a fine of slightly over $4,600.

Smith was fined $6,722 for hitting the head of Packers quarterback Jordan Love after he tossed the ball. Similar to Mahogany’s violation, the play was not flagged. During the game, which Detroit won 34-31 to go to 12-1, no Packers were punished for anything they did.
