The Saudi Pro League transfer window closes today (Thursday September 7) and Al-Ittihad are ready to make one last attempt to sign Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
The Reds rejected bids of up to £150m last week as they quickly rewrote the Premier League record deal – beating the £142m deal they agreed for Phillipe Coutinho to leave for Barcelona in January 2018.
The Telegraph report that Al-Ittihad, who have already done business with the Reds this summer, agreeing a £40m move for defensive midfielder Fabinho, are ready to offer a world record £200m as their transfer deadline approaches on Thursday.
However, Liverpool are rejecting all offers as they stand by their stance that Salah is not for sale this summer. The winger scored in the club’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa and did not seem bothered by his ties to Saudi Arabia. He has scored at least one goal in every game this season, assisting Luis Diaz at Chelsea, scoring against Bournemouth, helping Darwin Nunez to victory at Newcastle United and scoring against the Kop last weekend.
According to a report from Footmercato, Salah will not be leaving Anfield this year despite being offered a deal between £400m and £480m over three years.
Manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed after Liverpool’s win over Villa that the club’s stance will remain the same in the final days of the Saudi Pro League transfer window.
The Reds boss is adamant that no amount of money will tempt Liverpool to sell as Salah signs a two-year contract. Salah himself has also told his teammates that he does not want to leave the club. Summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai said Salah told the Liverpool dressing room: “He wants to stay, he wants to be here and with us. We’re really happy – we need someone like him in the team.
Klopp added: “He didn’t tell me, but he didn’t have to. He talks about his training, his performances and his behavior. We had meetings this week and the meetings weren’t about what we did before. It was about that , what we do in the future, let’s do. Mo was on the player [management] committee and he had moments where he spoke and it wasn’t something like, ‘by the way, it’s not until next week’ or whatever.
“He’s all over here and if Dom said so, fine. Mo doesn’t have to come into my office and tell me “by the way, boss… [I’m not going]”. It wasn’t a hot topic for me, to be honest, except for the questions.”
He continued: “Nobody came up to me and told me something might happen or anything. I’m pretty sure I would have gotten a call, but I didn’t. Since arriving from Roma in the summer of 2017, Salah has played 309 times for Liverpool, scoring 188 goals and providing 81 assists.
