Bears Promote Tanesha Wade to Executive VP of DEI & Chief Impact Officer
After a game-changing NFL Draft weekend, the Chicago Bears are further strengthening their organization by promoting Tanesha Wade to the position of executive vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as chief impact officer.
This move emphasizes the team’s dedication to these principles, as she transitions from her previous role as senior vice president of the DEI department.
Wade will oversee the team’s DEI strategy in her new role, including community relations, player and alumni relations, and philanthropic efforts through Bears Care, according to a story on the team’s website.
She will also continue to provide strategic guidance and support around internal DEI efforts and, in her new position, enhance community relationships, form strategic partnerships for inclusivity and social justice, and support marginalized voices.
Wade expressed enthusiasm about taking on the new role because it was a sincere endeavor led by George McCaskey and the entire ownership.
It stemmed from genuine reflection on improving the club by diversifying leadership and nurturing existing talent. Wade saw it as a lasting commitment, not just a fleeting initiative that would lose momentum over time.
For almost 11 years, Tanesha Wade has been on a dedicated journey within the Bears organization, starting as the director of events and entertainment.
As a lifelong Bears fan from Des Moines, Iowa, she has witnessed her role expand, now advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion across all levels of the organization.
As per the team’s website, Wade assumed the role of co-chair for the Bears’ diversity, equity, and inclusion council, which was set up following an evaluation of the club’s culture by an external consultant. Under Wade’s guidance, the Bears have made significant strides in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
These include introducing a program exposing local students to careers in sports, forming employee resource groups, establishing a women’s advisory board, and other noteworthy achievements. Wade’s impact also played a key role in the appointments of general manager Ryan Poles in 2022 and President & CEO Kevin Warren in 2023.
She expressed enthusiasm about being able to make a meaningful contribution and impact. She feels fortunate to have support from like-minded individuals at all levels.
She sees the organization as being at a crucial turning point, and she believes that maintaining this focus will make it an exceptional time to take on her new role.
