The turnover on the Detroit Lions coaching staff could still continue. As per ESPN’s reporter on the Dallas Cowboys, Todd Archer, Lions assistant head coach and running backs coach Scottie Montgomery has recently had an interview for the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator role.

Currently, there are three identified candidates for the position: ex-Browns OC Ken Dorsey, Falcons tight ends coach Kevin Koger, and the leading candidate, Cardinals offensive line coach Klayton Adams, who will have an in-person interview on Friday.

Montgomery has served as the Lions’ assistant head coach and running backs coach for the last two seasons and is regarded as one of the more cherished coaches on the team. He frequently communicates genuinely in front of the whole team, and he has played a key role in the development of 2023 first-round selection Jahmyr Gibbs. This year, Gibbs ranked fifth in rushing yards (1,412), third in yards per attempt (5.6), and tied for first in rushing touchdowns (16), even while sharing the workload significantly with David Montgomery.

The Lions’ offensive coaching team has experienced a significant amount of change this offseason. The Lions have already lost offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El, tight ends coach Steve Heiden, assistant quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett, and they have hired a new pass game coordinator, with Tanner Engstrand likely to become the next offensive coordinator for the New York Jets.

That’s a considerable number of components for an offense in a single season, but it’s anticipated given that Detroit has delivered three consecutive seasons of top-five offenses.
