Jets Might Reconnect $9 Million Lions Star With Aaron Glenn: ‘Prime Trade Prospect’

If there’s anyone who understands cornerback talent, it’s Aaron Glenn.

Before Glenn took on the role of head coach for the New York Jets, he was a standout cornerback for Gang Green. He participated in three Pro Bowls during his outstanding playing career, and now he hopes that his success with the Jets as a player will carry over to his coaching there.

Coincidentally, the Jets will probably be looking for cornerbacks this winter due to the expected exit of D.J. Reed in free agency. How will Glenn and the new Jets general manager, Darren Mougey, address this requirement?

Perhaps Glenn, the former defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, might suggest to his new boss to acquire one of his previous players.

On Monday, Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department identified Lions corner Amik Robertson as a “key trade target” for the Jets during this offseason.

“On defense, (the Jets) might need a cornerback to fill in for D.J. Reed if he exits via free agency,” the writers stated. “Last season, Robertson was alongside Glenn with the Lions and may assume a larger responsibility with the Jets.”

Robertson, 26, inked a two-year contract worth $9.25 million with the Lions last spring. He had no interceptions in 2024, but achieved a new career record with three forced fumbles and permitted a career-low of 7.2 yards per target while in coverage.

Although Robertson may not be as productive as Reed, he likely won’t be too expensive to obtain as a one-year rental. His reasonable salary would allow the Jets to allocate their funds to other areas as they aim to rebuild their reputation in 2025.
