Which Position Should the Detroit Lions Focus on in the 2025 NFL Draft?

The Detroit Lions are fortunate to have general manager Brad Holmes, who is recognized as one of the leading evaluators in the National Football League.

As they approach the offseason, the Lions have evident requirements in the trenches.

Initial signs suggest that the 2025 draft will present a strong group of defensive linemen that Holmes might pursue to help identify the right fit alongside Aidan Hutchinson.

In the most recent Draft Network mock draft, Detroit focuses on selecting an edge rusher and an interior offensive lineman in the early rounds.

With the 28th pick, the Lions choose Princely Umanmielen out of Ole Miss.

According to Justin Melo, “It’s clear that the Lions require an EDGE player opposite Aidan Hutchinson, as their pass rush faltered after his season-ending injury.” Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes generally favor larger body types for the role. Princely Umanmielen fulfills numerous criteria, tipping the scales at a solid 265 pounds during the Senior Bowl. Umanmielen is a dynamic pass rusher with exceptional quickness off the line who recorded a career-best 10.5 last season.

With the 60th pick, the Lions respond to their increasing necessity on the interior of the offensive line.

Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Tyler Booker was a starter for two years and might serve as an important contributor in the run game for a team featuring explosive running backs.

Booker has gained a reputation as a resilient football player with sought-after leadership qualities.

“Starting guard Kevin Zeitler is up for free agency, and his partner Graham Glasgow had difficulties in 2024.” “Ensuring a high-quality offensive line may make the guard position one of Holmes’ top two priorities this offseason,” noted Melo. “Tyler Booker is a phone-booth defender who matches Campbell’s favored approach to the game.”
