Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson seemed to be having a conversation with Cleveland Browns’ pass rush specialist Myles Garrett at the NFL Honors event prior to Super Bowl 59. Maybe they were talking about how great it would be if Hutchinson and Garrett were causing chaos together with the Detroit Lions.

Myles Garrett and Jared Goff Seen at NFL Honors Engaging in Speculative Talk

Garrett requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, making the announcement public through a letter he wrote on social media. The Browns have rejected Garrett’s requests, leading to a stalemate between the parties, even though Garrett remains under contract to play for the Browns.

The Lions were one of the teams that Pro Football and Sports Network identified as an ideal choice for Garrett to join.

When discussing a team with Super Bowl aspirations, the Lions are among the first that come to mind. It’s unexpected considering their franchise past, but strangely, they returned to that style when it was most important.

Detroit lost to the Washington Commanders but still has one of the most formidable rosters in the NFL.

Garrett Aims for One Objective

Since joining the NFL, Garrett has appeared in six Pro Bowls and has accumulated 102.5 sacks in his brief career. Furthermore, he has been selected for six All-Pro teams, with four being first-team honors, and has guided the team to two playoff appearances.

Nonetheless, Garrett has much grander aspirations in the NFL. In his remarks, he was straightforward and candid about his reasons for seeking a new environment. Ian Rapoport conveyed the message featuring a unique statement from the Browns’ all-time leader in sacks.

As a child aspiring to the NFL, my sole focus was on the ultimate aim of achieving a Super Bowl victory — and that ambition energizes me now more than ever. My affection for the Northeast Ohio community and the amazing supporters of the Cleveland Browns has turned this into one of the hardest choices I’ve ever faced. The last eight years have molded me into the person I am now.

“Although I have cherished referring to the city as my home, my ambition to triumph and compete on the grandest platforms prevents me from being complacent.” The aim has never been to travel from Cleveland to Canton, [Ohio, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame]; it has always been to strive for and achieve a Super Bowl victory. Taking that into consideration, I have asked to be moved from the Cleveland Browns.”

The decision surprises enthusiasts of the franchise. The Browns have experienced awful luck in recent years, particularly since the fateful trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson. Now, with their franchise cornerstone no longer supporting them, a comprehensive rebuild could be in progress in Cleveland.
