A segment of NFL history has discovered a new residence.

During the weekend, the Super Bowl XLII ring of ex-New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was auctioned off for $280,600.

As reported by ProFootballTalk, this sale is thought to be the second-highest amount ever received for a Super Bowl ring. The leading position is held by the Super Bowl V ring of Baltimore Colts head coach Don McCafferty, which was sold for $300,000 in 2022.

Burress’s ring holds significant value as he is the athlete who made the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII on a pass from Eli Manning, and with that victory, the Giants halted the New England Patriots from finishing their undefeated season with a title.

Burress earned over $29 million throughout his 12 seasons in the NFL, but has faced various legal and financial problems during and after his playing career.
