Kevin Garnett Makes Bold Prediction About Lakers-Mavericks Playoff Matchup That Could ‘Break the Internet’

NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett is not shying away from sharing his bold opinion, and this one could significantly alter discussions about the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

Following the major trade that moved Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks, both teams have undergone significant changes. Although there was initial doubt about the trade, Garnett is confident that it will lead to an epic showdown.

On a recent episode of the “All the Smoke” podcast, Garnett made a daring prediction: the Lakers and Mavericks are set to face off in the Western Conference finals, and it will “break the internet.”

Since the trade, the Mavericks have revamped their roster with Davis and Kyrie Irving, relying on Davis’ top-tier defense and dominance in the paint. However, Davis is currently dealing with a left adductor strain.

The Lakers, on the other hand, with LeBron James, Doncic, and a reinvigorated supporting cast, have adapted to a new offensive style. Dalton Knecht has emerged as a significant contributor for Los Angeles, while Jaxson Hayes has been compared to Dereck Lively II for his rim protection and ability to finish lobs.

Garnett was unwavering in his prediction.

“Dallas and the Lakers, I’m seeing it, especially with Hayes—he’s the new Lively,” he told Matt Barnes and JR Rider during an episode of “All the Smoke.” “If you watch him, he can catch a lob and block shots. … My crystal ball says Lakers and Mavs in the Western Conference finals, and that’s gonna break the internet.”

With the star power and massive franchises at play, Garnett’s prediction is as bold as they come. If his forecast proves accurate, the NBA could be in for a thrilling playoff series that fans will be eager to watch.
