Mavericks supporters voiced the same sentiment after Kyrie Irving’s injury.
The already disheartened Dallas Mavericks fanbase was once again devastated on Monday when Kyrie Irving suffered an injury.
Irving injured his left leg in the first quarter during the Mavs’ Western Conference matchup against the Sacramento Kings at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. He collided knees with Kings center Jonas Valanciunas and had to be assisted off the court.
Kyrie’s injury marked yet another moment of frustration in what has been a difficult year for Mavericks fans. Many Dallas supporters shared their emotions on X after Irving’s departure from the game on Sunday. Several described it as one of the most agonizing experiences any fanbase has ever faced in a single season, regardless of sport or league.
With Irving sidelined, Dallas trailed by as much as 32 points in the second half. Mavericks fans in attendance were seen exiting the arena in large numbers as the team fell further behind in the third quarter. The Mavericks ended up losing 122-98.
Irving had been one of the few bright spots left for Mavericks fans since the team traded away their star player, Luka Doncic. Heading into Monday’s game, Irving was averaging 25.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists on 47.3% shooting from the field. Since the All-Star break, his scoring had risen to 28.6 points per game.
With Irving expected to be out for a while and Anthony Davis still injured, the Mavericks’ nightmare season has only become more unbearable.
