LeBron James Receives New Nickname from Lakers After Reaching 50,000-Point Milestone

LeBron James added another remarkable achievement to his legendary NBA career on Tuesday night.

Entering the game against the New Orleans Pelicans, James was just two points away from reaching 50,000 combined regular-season and postseason points. He hit an open three-pointer in the first quarter, pushing his career total to 50,002 points.

At 40 years old, James is in his 22nd NBA season and continues to perform at an elite level. He was recently named the Western Conference Player of the Month, as announced by the NBA on Tuesday.

Following his achievement, the Lakers took to social media to dub James with a new nickname after surpassing the 50,000-point milestone.

“Mr. 50k,” the team posted on X.

This season, James is averaging 24.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.6 assists per game. Thanks to his stellar performances, the Lakers are currently on a six-game win streak and hold the No. 2 spot in the Western Conference.

James is the first player in NBA history to reach the 50,000-point mark in combined regular-season and postseason points. Only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone have exceeded the 40,000-point threshold.

James broke Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time regular-season scoring record on February 8, 2023, and surpassed 40,000 regular-season points On march 2, 2024.
