Detroit Lions Add Pass-Rushing Partner for Aidan Hutchinson in Latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft

Detroit Lions Secure Pass-Rushing Partner for Aidan Hutchinson in Post-Scouting Combine 2025 NFL Mock Draft

With the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine now completed, experts are quickly rolling out their updated mock drafts. In ESPN’s Post-Scouting Combine 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Jordan Reid projects the Detroit Lions will select a pass-rushing counterpart for Aidan Hutchinson with the No. 28 overall pick in the first round.

Detroit Lions Draft Donovan Ezeiruaku, Edge, Boston College

Reid has the Lions taking Donovan Ezeiruaku at No. 28 and provides insight into why he is a strong fit.

Although Aidan Hutchinson played just five games this season, he still led the team with 7.5 sacks. Injuries severely impacted the defense, highlighting Detroit’s need for additional pass rushers. Ezeiruaku’s draft stock has skyrocketed following a breakout season with 16.5 sacks (the second most in the FBS) and impressive pre-draft performances. His quick first step and variety of moves allowed him to generate a 6.1% pressure rate off the edge, ranking sixth in the FBS. He also led the country with 62 pressures, forcing two fumbles along the way.

Would Ezeiruaku Be a Good Fit for Detroit?

If Donovan Ezeiruaku remains available when the Lions are on the clock at No. 28, expect Brad Holmes to give him serious consideration. The Boston College pass rusher has consistently demonstrated his ability to pressure quarterbacks. While his run defense isn’t elite, he would be a strong complement to Aidan Hutchinson.

Final Thoughts

Brad Holmes has proven to be unpredictable in the NFL Draft, but the safe bet is that he will prioritize strengthening the defensive line in 2025. Whether Ezeiruaku ultimately becomes the selection at No. 28 remains uncertain, but if the Lions do take him, they’ll be getting a player with immense potential.
