The Detroit Lions have given generous contract extensions to numerous important members of their core.
Recently, two prominent NFL players have reshaped the market for their positions, as running back Saquon Barkley and defensive end Maxx Crosby have finalized substantial contract extensions.
Barkley is the NFL’s top-paid running back, having signed a two-year contract extension valued at $41.2 million. The skilled running back obtained $36 million in fully guaranteed funds.
Crosby has reportedly accepted a three-year, $106.5 million extension that features $91.5 million in guaranteed funds. The 27-year-old ranks as the highest-earning non-quarterback in NFL history.
As per the Raiders team website, “Since 2019, among defensive linemen in the NFL, Crosby is first in tackles for loss (105), fourth in tackles (364), tied for fourth in sacks (59.5), fourth in quarterback hits (144), and fifth in quarterback pressures (346).” He ranks third in Raiders’ history with 59.5 career sacks, and his 364 total tackles are the highest in franchise history for a defensive lineman in their initial six NFL seasons.
In the previous season, Crosby achieved 7.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, 20 quarterback hits, and 35 pressures on quarterbacks.
Since being chosen by the Raiders in the 2019 Draft, Crosby has amassed 59.5 sacks, 364 tackles (232 solo), 105 tackles for loss, 23 passes defensed, nine forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries over six NFL seasons.
Lions general manager Brad Holmes stated at the scouting combine that the team has begun the planning stage of finalizing a long-term contract extension for the former Michigan Wolverines defensive lineman.
With the contract baseline established, it’s fair to anticipate that Hutchinson will seek a four-year deal that will bring him over $140 million.
Gibbs is contracted until the end of the 2026 season. The organization can opt to activate his fifth-year option following the next season.
