This offseason, the New York Jets welcomed back a former Detroit Lions coach with connections to the franchise, as Aaron Glenn returned home. However, they later lost a promising defender when cornerback DJ Reed chose to join Glenn’s old team.

Glenn’s exit signifies that the Jets must manage without a player who frequently placed within Pro Football Focus’ top 10 at his position while they aim to uphold their solid defensive-focused approach under the former defensive coordinator from Detroit.

On Saturday, the Jets’ premier cornerback, Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner, disclosed the funny method he claims he used to get Reed ready for his new chance with the Lions in Motown.

“It’s wild since I taught him the blade dance when we were in NY only for him to head to Detroit lol,” Gardner posted on X.

“I was raising my dawg for Detroit without realizing it,” Gardner remarked, alluding to a Detroit-centered hip hop tune and cultural trend about “bossing up” and “getting your life in order.”

The Lions will require Reed to swiftly grasp the details of new defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard’s system, especially with former starter Carlton Davis III now in New England.

The Lions are expected to transition from hunters to prey after their 15-2 regular season earned them the top seed in the NFC last year under coach Dan Campbell.
