NFL GM: Carson Beck Transferring from Georgia to Miami Raises Concerns
An anonymous NFL general manager expressed concern over Carson Beck’s decision to transfer from Georgia to Miami, calling it a red flag.
According to an unnamed NFL GM, Carson Beck’s transfer from Georgia to Miami raises questions about his decision, suggesting that it doesn’t represent a step up in terms of competition or coaching quality. The GM described the move as a poor look for Beck.
The GM further emphasized that Beck’s transfer from Georgia to Miami raises suspicions, particularly since Beck will now play behind a more seasoned offensive line with the Hurricanes. Some analysts believe that offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson’s system at Miami might be a better fit for Beck than Georgia’s scheme.
Cam Ward’s 2024 season under Dawson at Miami, following his transfer from Washington State, helped solidify the Hurricanes as a QB destination. Ward finished as a Heisman finalist, ranking fourth, and is projected to be the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. At the start of the 2024 season, Beck was also a projected first-round pick for 2025.
Currently, Beck is projected to be the 47th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft by the NFL Mock Draft Database. Just a few months ago, Beck was considered a top contender for the 2026 draft’s first pick. A torn UCL injury to his right elbow has likely raised doubts about his future prospects.
“Whether Kirby (Smart) let him go or he chose to leave, it’s still a significant red flag. It certainly hurts his stock with us. He didn’t transfer to play against tougher competition or for better coaching. It’s a bad look, and it raises a lot of questions,” said the anonymous NFL GM.
Beck’s recovery from his injury and his performance at Miami in the 2025 season will be pivotal in determining his draft position in 2026. He is considered one of the more polarizing figures in college football. CBS Sports highlighted Beck and Miami’s C.J. Daniels as players to watch for 2026.
In another CBS Sports article, Chip Patterson questioned, “Will Carson Beck return healthy and in top form?” Patterson also noted, “Beck has the opportunity at Miami to prove he’s still capable of being one of the best quarterbacks in the country.” Beck is set to be one of the most closely watched players in college football in 2025.
