Detroit Lions Reveal Jersey Number Change for Jahmyr Gibbs
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was a key contributor to the team’s impressive 15-2 season and will debut a new number when the defending NFC North champions return to Ford Field this September.
On Thursday, the Lions announced multiple jersey number adjustments for the 2025 season, with Gibbs officially switching to No. 0. The former Alabama Crimson Tide standout previously wore No. 26 for his first two NFL seasons but will now showcase his speed in one of the league’s more distinctive numbers.
Two other former Alabama players on the Lions also received new numbers on Thursday, as wide receiver Jameson Williams changed to No. 1, while cornerback Terrion Arnold opted for No. 6.
Gibbs has been a game-changer in Detroit since being drafted, quickly silencing any doubts about the Lions selecting him in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. In just two seasons, he has earned two Pro Bowl appearances and delivered a stellar 2024 performance, tallying 1,412 rushing yards and a league-best 16 rushing touchdowns.
The NFL approved the use of No. 0 in 2023, reversing a 50-year rule that previously banned the number. Notable players who adopted the change that year included running back D’Andre Swift with the Philadelphia Eagles and linebacker Roquan Smith with the Baltimore Ravens.
Before turning pro, Gibbs sported No. 1 throughout his three-year collegiate career at both Georgia Tech and Alabama.
