Defensive excellent: With 57 touches, the Liverpool striker was absolutely dangerous against Everton
Luis Diaz had a big impact on Liverpool’s Merseyside derby clash with Everton at the weekend.
The Colombian may not have got on the scoresheet, although his clever play from outside the 18-yard line saw Ashley Young dismissed in the first half, while he more than fulfilled his defensive duties.
According to statistics recorded by Sofascore, the former FC Porto star was the highest-rated player on the pitch at the time of the change (7.6), with 57 touches, six of eight duels won and two tackles.
Amid questions about Diaz’s international pressure, he shows no signs of stress at club level.
We could argue that he is underrated by commentators and pundits outside the confines of Merseyside, despite being a useful starter on the left for Jurgen Klopp’s men. Mo Salah’s name will undoubtedly sound the full-time whistle at Anfield if we get the bulk of the points in L4, although let’s hope the contribution of another electric wide man isn’t forgotten in the process.
