Philippe Clement gets Rangers wish with Hamza Igamane news
Imminent Rangers signing Hamza Igamane has not been selected for the Morocco Olympics squad as Philippe Clement gets his wish.
Morocco World News confirmed on 5 July that Igamane is not in the nation’s 26-man Olympic squad, despite strong suggestions he would be named.
The news comes on the back of Moroccan Grinta reporting that Clement would block the player’s call-up.
Clement will now have Igamane available for pre-season, and the start of the 2024-25 campaign, following the confirmation of the deal from Far Rabat.
Rangers made tough decision on Hamza Igamane
No doubt Igamane will be disappointed with being denied the opportunity to represent Morocco at the Olympics.
Clement has seemingly made the decision to deny his release to the national team and aid his transition from Morocco to Scotland.
Rangers joined Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven, Real Betis and Crystal Palace in refusing to release their players (The National, 5 July) as it is not a FIFA requirement.
Igamane risked missing the majority of pre-season and potentially the Scottish Premiership opener, but will now get time to adjust to his new surroundings.
Clement will need all hands on deck if he is to challenge Celtic for the SPFL next season.
Rangers have been linked with moves for former Arsenal defender Reuell Walters (Daily Record, 4 June) and Norwich midfielder Kenny McClean (Heart and Hand Podcast via X, 4 July).
The 21-year-old will provide competition for striker Cyriel Dessers and provide depth in the winger positions.
He is embarking on a massive adventure swapping the Middle East for the UK and he will need all the time available to be ready to make his mark on the SPFL.
