The Dallas Cowboys are about to embark on one of the most important seasons in the team’s history because it may be their only chance to win a Super Bowl with their current, talented squad intact.
Dallas has one of the best lineups in the NFL, but despite finishing with 12 victories in three consecutive regular seasons, Dak Prescott and company have struggled in the postseason.
There was a broad belief among NFL insiders that Jerry Jones might blow it all up after the Dallas Cowboys were upset by the Packers in the Wildcard Round last year. Rather, he chose to stick with Mike McCarthy, who is about to reach the last year of his deal, and start Prescott at quarterback.
Jerry Jones has decided to wait to sign Prescott to a new contract after the quarterback for the Cowboys had one of his best seasons ever and led the MVP conversation for the majority of the season. Jones has even openly stated that the plan is to let Prescott finish out the remaining year on his current contract.
Prescott’s 2024 salary cap burden would be enormous, and this offseason, adding new players was all but impossible.
So instead, the Dallas Cowboys lost numerous starters, including OL Tyron Smith, RB Tony Pollard and other crucial players on both sides of the ball.

Despite avoiding the future throughout the offseason, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Prescott finally accepted this might be his last season in his present position when he stood at the platform following training camp practice.
Fllowing this season, there will be a least of five teams, maybe more, lining up to make him the most paid QB in the NFL.
Jones and the Cowboys brass are taking a significant gamble, and even while some insiders think the team still intends to sign Prescott to a long-term contract, the quarterback now has the last say and should not feel pressured to agree.
Prescott remarked, “I want to be here, but if you look up, all the great quarterbacks I watched played for other teams.” There is nothing to be afraid about. I might eventually be able to do that. Maybe it was not my choice. That is my level of freedom.

Because of a provision in his current contract that prevents him from wearing the franchise tag, Prescott has a lot of power. Additionally, Prescott has a no-trade clause that would prohibit Dallas from dealing with the quarterback absent the star’s approval.
Because of all of this, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report believes that Prescott will leave Dallas when free agency opens in 2025. Knox predicted that Prescott will sign a $224 million, four-year contract with a different team in the upcoming offseason.
Knox thinks Prescott’s tenure with the Dallas Cowboys is coming to an end.
In an article published on July 26, 2024, under the headline “Projecting Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy Contracts After Tua Tagovailoa Deal,” Knox said, “By waiting, the Cowboys have allowed Prescott to watch as [Jared] Goff and [Trevor] Lawrence signed their extension.” “Tagovailoa’s contract is now finalized as well. Prescott is going to need at least $53.2 million a year, even if he is not trying to lead the market.
Prescott is probably going to get that, and maybe not from Dallas either. Knox went on, “He can play on a $55.1 million cap hit this season and hit free agency in 2025 because his deal includes a no-tag and no-trade clause.
He wrote, “It seems like a separation between Dallas and Prescott is unavoidable.” “The question is, which team in 2025, desperate for a quarterback, will pay up for the three-time Pro Bowler?”
Sooner rather than later, the Dallas Cowboys will need to make a few important decisions. Prior to the 2024 season, CeeDee Lamb needs to sign a new contract. Once this is done, Jerry and Stephen Jones can concentrate on figuring out how to keep Prescott in the area.
