Owner Jerry Jones stated on Friday that the Dallas Cowboys are still in contact with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is not taking part in training camp in order to work toward a new deal.

We are all discussing, but I would not say how near we are to an agreement,” Jones stated.

Lamb was selected 17th overall in the 2020 draft and is currently in the last year of his rookie contract. He was first in the NFL last season with 135 receptions, second in receiving yards (1,749), and third with 12 touchdown receptions.

In June, just after Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson inked an unprecedented deal for a position other than quarterback, Lamb was not present at minicamp.

Lamb, who is in the final year of his rookie contract, was chosen 17th overall in the 2020 draft. Last season, he led the NFL in receiving yards (1,749), touchdown receptions (12), and total receptions (135).

Lamb did not attend minicamp in June, just after Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson signed a historic contract for a position other than quarterback.

Lamb’s agents contend that because of his consistent improvement in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, he should be paid a high-value contract. The offense has adjusted in Lamb’s absence from camp, with third-year receiver Jalen Tolbert receiving more practice time. Quarterback Dak Prescott expressed optimism that Lamb would return soon, saying, “My birthday just passed, and he sent me a great ‘happy birthday’ message, which led to some talks. He told me he wants to come back soon, and I am hopeful we will have him back with us quickly. He is working hard and eager to rejoin the group.”
