Steelers Make Bold Move, Waive Tarik Black as Trade Rumors Intensify for 49ers’ Brandon Aiyuk

The Pittsburgh Steelers have recently cleared a spot on their 90-man roster by waiving wide receiver Tarik Black, who was designated as injured. This move opens up an opportunity for potential roster changes, including the possibility of a trade for San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk.

Tarik Black, who joined the Steelers on July 31, had a brief stint with the team. During the Steelers’ first preseason game, he managed one catch for 11 yards and played seven offensive snaps along with three special teams snaps. Prior to his time with Pittsburgh, Black’s NFL experience was limited, with only one regular-season appearance for the New York Jets in 2021, where he caught a single pass for 10 yards.

The timing of Black’s release is notable in light of recent reports suggesting that the Steelers and 49ers have reached an agreement in principle for a trade involving Aiyuk.

However, the final outcome remains uncertain as the 49ers are also engaged in discussions with Aiyuk about a potential long-term contract extension. This negotiation could impact the trade, leaving the situation fluid and subject to change.

With Black now waived and potentially heading to injured reserve if he goes unclaimed, the Steelers have an open slot that could be used to facilitate a move for Aiyuk.

The trade talks reflect the Steelers’ interest in bolstering their receiving corps, and how they navigate these negotiations could be pivotal in shaping their roster for the upcoming season. The resolution of Aiyuk’s situation will likely influence the Steelers’ final roster decisions and their overall strategy for the season ahead.
