Breaking News: Flanagan Targets Unwanted Eels Star for Dragons Rebuild

Unwanted Eels star in Flanagan’s sights for Dragons rebuild

Parramatta prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard could be on his way to Wollongong with St George Illawarra identifying the veteran as the player who can bring experience to their pack in 2025.

RCG has been told by the Eels that he is free to leave early as part of new coach Jason Ryles’ roster overhaul and NewsCorp reports the Dragons believe the former NSW and Australian front-rower can bring much-needed grunt to their team.

Shane Flanagan has already added seasoned campaigners in Souths hooker Damien Cook and Cowboys centre Valentine Holmes for next year after lifting the Dragons up to eighth and a shot at making the finals heading into the final two rounds of his first season as coach.

The Dragons were early contenders for Tigers prop Stefano Utoikamanu before withdrawing their interest when it was clear that he would be headed to Melbourne and have also been interested in Newcastle’s Daniel Saifiti as a possible acquisition.

However, Saifiti appears keen to stay at the Knights despite being told he could leave with Kiwi international Leo Thompson now looking like he is on his way out of the club.

The Dragons will farewell NSW winger Zac Lomax (Eels) and young centre Savelio Tamale (Raiders) at the end of the season while Jack Bird, Blake Lawrie, Mikaele Ravalawa and Dan Russell have been told they can accept deals elsewhere.

Parra have also told winger Maika Sivo and back-rower Ryan Matterson they can depart despite being under contract next year.

St Helens have signed prolific Cowboys tryscorer Kyle Feldt, who has agreed a two-year deal and will join the Saints next season.

He has spent 11 years at the Cowboys, scoring 146 tries in 214 appearances, and claimed a late touchdown in the Cowboys’ 2015 grand-final victory over Brisbane Broncos.

DARWIN, AUSTRALIA - APRIL 19: Reagan Campbell-Gillard of the Eels is tackled during the round seven NRL match between Parramatta Eels and Dolphins at TIO Stadium on April 19, 2024, in Darwin, Australia.
