Breaking: Astros’ Outfielder Sidelined with a Broken Leg, Placed on IL

Astros’ Ben Gamel Out Indefinitely After Breaking Leg in Spectacular Wall Collision, César Salazar Recalled

Houston Astros outfielder Ben Gamel was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday after suffering a broken left leg during a game against the Los Angeles Angels. The injury occurred three days prior when Gamel collided with the wall at Angel Stadium while making a running catch. The Astros, who currently lead the AL West, announced that Gamel will be sidelined indefinitely.

Gamel, who was claimed off waivers from the New York Mets on August 20, had been a solid addition to Houston’s roster. In the 20 games he played with the team, he started 18 and posted a .259 batting average, along with one home run and four RBIs.

His versatility and defensive capabilities were valuable to the Astros, and his injury presents a notable blow to the outfield depth as the team prepares for the final stretch of the regular season.

In response to Gamel’s absence, the Astros recalled catcher César Salazar from Triple-A Sugar Land. This marks Salazar’s third stint with the Astros this season.

In his previous appearances, the 27-year-old hit .304 with eight RBIs across 10 games. Salazar’s return will provide additional depth to the Astros’ lineup as they work to maintain their lead in the competitive AL West division.
