Breaking: Brisbane SHOCKER: Broncos Legend Resigns from Club amid Concerns about its Future

Broncos Legend Darius Boyd Steps Down from Mentoring Role Over Concerns About Club’s Future

Brisbane Broncos legend Darius Boyd has stepped down from his mentoring role at the club, leaving behind concerns about the direction of the team’s football program.

Boyd, a 337-game NRL great, quietly informed former Broncos coach Kevin Walters of his intention to leave, sparking a meeting between the two. His departure came shortly before Walters’ own exit, as Boyd expressed his desire to explore new opportunities following Brisbane’s underwhelming 12th-place finish last season.

Boyd’s influence at the club was far-reaching, particularly in his work mentoring young fullback Reece Walsh. Boyd was instrumental in Walsh’s development, frequently cutting game footage for analysis and offering insights that helped Walsh elevate his game.

Walsh spoke highly of Boyd’s impact, recalling his guidance during his time in the elite player development squad (EPD) and crediting him for his rapid improvement, which culminated in Walsh’s pivotal role in Brisbane’s run to last year’s grand final.

Despite stepping away from the football department, Boyd will continue to serve the Broncos in a capacity that is close to his heart—mental health advocacy. As a mental-health ambassador, Boyd remains committed to making a difference within the club and the broader community.

It is uncertain whether newly appointed Brisbane coach Michael Maguire will attempt to persuade Boyd to return to his mentoring role, but for now, Boyd’s focus remains on his passion for mental health awareness.
