Breaking: Fiji’s Bid to Host the 2031 Pacific Games Unsuccessful

Tonga Triumphs Over Fiji to Host 2031 Pacific Games in Historic Return!

The Pacific Games Council has announced that Tonga will host the 2031 Pacific Games, following a close vote in Palau where Tonga received 12 votes compared to Fiji’s nine. This will mark the first time Tonga hosts the full Pacific Games, having previously only hosted the Mini Games 35 years ago.

Fiji, represented by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC), extended their warmest congratulations to Tonga, despite their own strong bid.

FASANOC emphasized the spirit of Pacific unity and expressed support for Tonga’s preparations, wishing them success as they take on this important role in welcoming athletes and fans from across the Pacific.

Tonga’s successful bid is notable after they withdrew from hosting the 2019 Games due to financial concerns, with Samoa stepping in at the time.

Now, Tonga will have the opportunity to demonstrate its capability in organizing the region’s largest sporting event, as excitement builds toward 2031.
