In connection with a threat made against a Petaluma elementary school on Monday that resulted in the evacuation of the school, a 47-year-old man was taken into custody in the South Lake Tahoe region on Tuesday.

We found out late on Monday that Penngrove Elementary School in Petaluma had been evacuated because of a threat. The superintendent of the school system subsequently declared that Penngrove and another school would be closed on Tuesday as a result of the threat. According to the Chronicle, Petaluma City Schools acting superintendent Esmeralda Mondragón declared on Monday that Penngrove and Kenilworth Junior High Schools will be closed on Tuesday because of “a threat that was made today by an adult towards Penngrove Elementary.” Not a direct threat, but a connection between the individual and Kenilworth Junior High led to the school’s closure.

Later on, Kevin Harrington, a 47-year-old Santa Rosa resident, was recognised as the culprit. According to KPIX, Harrington was taken into the Douglas County Jail after being taken into custody in Douglas County, Nevada, which is close to South Lake Tahoe.

He was detained on accusations of possessing a stolen car and making felonious threats. With assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and South Lake Tahoe Police, Harrington was discovered and taken into custody. It’s unclear what Harrington’s relationship to the elementary school is, if any, or the nature or purpose of the threat. Penngrove Elementary was placed on lockdown due to a threat on Monday. Following the evacuation of the school, parents were contacted to pick up their children at a local fire station at 1:30 pm.

Harrington is awaiting extradition back to Sonoma County and is being jailed on a $500,000 bail.
