The versatile forward Federico Chiesa was signed by the Merseysiders in an attempt to fill a significant hole in the squad. But now that the Italian has effectively transferred from Juventus, it begs the question of whether Jamie Gittens, a left-sided winger, is still necessary. A query that, if Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes learns of the Dortmund No. 43’s €100 million [£83.2 million] price tag, will undoubtedly turn into a red flag.

Dortmund won’t let Gittens go in the winter, but they will start talks and allow him to leave if a Premier League team is prepared to pay €100 million. If not, they will put off raising his asking price while they wait and continue to educate him.

There is currently no release clause in his contract, which runs until 2028. I am not sure if he is currently worth €100 million, but if not, he needs to demonstrate his worth by playing another season at Dortmund the next year. Gittens Jamie

Jamie Gittens is hoping to move to Liverpool.

Arne Slot’s guys are well-stocked in that area between Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz (allowing for Chiesa’s capacity to play out on the left). Even yet, hearing that a player with Gittens’ calibre would be more than willing to join Liverpool during the summer transfer window must be comforting. An interesting development in the wake of rumours that the Merseysiders are in advanced negotiations to recruit Loic Bade before January. “If you were a player in England before, you always want to go back and show that you’re capable of playing in the Premier League and that you were just a step behind.” If Real Madrid hadn’t been involved, Jude Bellingham would have likewise gone back to England, Falk continued.

You always know that attending Dortmund isn’t the end of your career. Players like Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho joined BVB for this reason. “Gittens is not cheap, so he would be dreaming of joining a team like Manchester City or Liverpool.” They know they have an intriguing, if perhaps morbidly costly, option if one of their near possibilities decides to pursue new pastures at the end of the season.
