Paul Scholes cannot answer the question of whether he was better than Steven Gerrard, admitting that it depends on the nature of the two teams at the time.
Football fans continue to debate Scholes’ success at Manchester United amid Gerrard’s reign at Liverpool Park.
And Scholes, who made more than 700 appearances for the Red Devils over two decades, believes the formations of both sides were crucial in separating the pair.

Asked how they would have done if the situation had been reversed, Scholes said it was “very different again” and that they might not have had the same success. Scholes said: “I couldn’t do what he did at Liverpool.
– I don’t know if he could do it at United. I don’t see why not. But I couldn’t do what he did in Liverpool, no.
The debate between Scholes and Gerrard remains controversial despite a decade since their playing days.

After Scholes retired from playing in 2013, he joined several of his former Man United teammates to own Salford City, who currently compete in League Two. Gerrard, who made more than 700 appearances for Liverpool between 1998 and 2015, joined LA Galaxy before retiring from the game in 2016.
